This exhibition brings together the works of shibetz Cohen and Yuval Shaul.
Cohen is exhibiting works on paper from the Andreia series 1, 2 and 3 this series examines the borders of action Painting. The paper turns into the target of a launched explosive devise containing graphite flakes and color stick residue; these tears wound the paper and simulate a violent act of war, while creating a drawing that loses its control.
Next to his paper works Cohen exhibits a video from 2008 called Virgins in Heaven
The video starts with an image that impersonates an ultrasound or a Rorschach test, a fight for territory ensues between the white and black stains. The abstract stain gradually turns into a veiled face, in the Israeli reality this brings up an immediate connotation of a terrorist, the video ends with a loud blast.
In Yuval Shauls new work, war ships transform from fur, in his past exhibition, into models of war vessels made of porcelain .The Subject of masculinity is expressed through fragile delicate objects. The larger photographs are of drowned submarines and planes. The group of small photographs looks as if it's been taken out of a war museum archive.
In the works of both artists there is tension between the violent content and delicate material that the works are made of, it being paper or porcelain. There is a prominent contradiction between the controlled process and outcome in shauls perfect porcelain figurines and the lack of control in Cohen's explosions.
